2. Compliance documents submitted by mail, fax or email: allow 21 business days.

Twenty-one business days is about a calendar month. Twenty-four to 48 hours is two days. Same department, same case, wildly different waits — and the difference is entirely in which channel you use.

What this means in practice

Pay every fee online. Mail only what genuinely has to be mailed. That one decision can take three weeks out of your reinstatement, and it costs nothing.

Write your details on every page

DPS asks for your full name, date of birth and driver licence number on each document, plus a copy of your suspension notice if you have one. From 570 miles away, a document that cannot be matched to your record is a document that has to be sent again.

Where the occupational licence collides with this

If you have petitioned for an occupational driver licence, the signed court order works as a licence for 45 days while DPS processes the request. Set 21 business days of processing against a 45-day window and the margin is thin.

So the sequence matters. Have the SR-22 in force before the judge signs, pay the fees online the same week, and mail the certified petition and order as the only thing that has to travel.

What you can do without leaving El Paso
